Dr. Yung is a very comprehensive and knowledgeable doctor. He’s also an extremely skillful surgeon. I was born with a tragic problem with my left eye; I have spent my entire life dealing with near blindness with optical vision at 20/1600. I finally decided to have it corrected with my insurance and Dr. Yung was able to correct my vision to 20/200. Now for some, that may seem not too good, but I have the highest powered lens inside my eye available, and I have reasonably restored vision, which is far better than the absolute blindness I have had my entire life. Although I have developed other issues with my vision that are completely unrelated to my surgery, Dr. Yung is helping me navigate the medical issues that I still face. In the past few months, Dr. Sheils has performed two cataract- and glaucoma-related surgeries on my eyes. From my first visit with her, I felt totally confident in her abilities. She clearly explained what she recommended for me and why, and throughout the entire process, she welcomed two-way conversation. I especially appreciated that each evening on the day of the surgeries, she personally phoned to see how I was doing and asked if I had any concerns or questions. I can't find the words to describe the incredible experience we had with Dr. W. Berwyn Smith. We took my 92 year old mother to see him with an urgent medical issue. He and his staff calmly and patiently facilitated my mother’s needs, who is completely disabled, and he examined her manually on her gurney, which barely fit inside the office. I can firmly say that Dr. Smith is the most professional, knowledgeable, kind and compassionate doctor we have ever met. He listened to us, and took the time to explain everything to us very well, without being rushed or stressed. And at the end he even asked us if we had any further questions about the diagnosis or treatment. He educated us on what to do and not to do. Dr.Richmond Roeske has seen my husband to monitor his cataract progression for over 8 years. Then, he did the surgery in both eyes in 2 sessions using the special lenses we purchased that are custom, better grade. Super outcome, no glasses needed years later. So, now I went. His staff performed several different tests. Then Dr Roeske checked me, said very small, not even worth mentioning. Other doctors might have lied, Dr. R tells the truth always. I was super impressed with the staff at Pacific Eye Institute in Rancho. I have been to their other office in Upland and they are cordial, but not nearly as friendly as their Rancho office. I took my mom the day after Christmas and as soon as we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcoming big smile. Then when we were called in, Iris, took us back and the smiles continued. She was very patient and kind to my mom. Never rushed her and listened to all she had to say. Then we waited outside for a very short time and were called in by another young lady whom unfortunately I didn't get her name, but again with a nice smile. Dr. Roeske, of course very kind and professional as always, checked my mom's eyes. I love that he speaks to her in Spanish and he definitely does a great job at it. I left that place in disbelief. I couldn't believe how nice and friendly the entire staff was. I felt so good, it was strange I felt as if I had just visited my friend's house and I was so happy to see them. I was very wary of letting anyone operate on my eyes, but when cataracts made it necessary I did a little Google review research and found Dr. Roeske. I allowed him to operate on the first eye and followed his advice on the premium lens (you pay for it once and it improves vision for a long time). The result was so good I had no trouble entrusting the second eye to him too. Now more than a year later, the eyes are still great. I will have a laser procedure to clean up a little scaring soon. Dr. Roeski has performed four surgeries for me. I have total confidence in him! He removed both cataracts, and now has done the second laser surgery to relieve the eye pressure. All of the surgeries worked perfectly. My issues with glaucoma have been resolved. I will continue to use one eye drop in each eye daily. However, my eye pressure that were once in the mid to high twenties have dropped to ten and twelve. (The drop in eye pressure was actually confirmed during the surgery follow-up appointment.) For example, he was able to see how much cholesterol was building up in the blood vessels since you can see these blood vessels clearly in the eye. I've seen Dr. Smith for all my eye care for many years and will never see any other Dr of Opthalmology unless he retires. I drive a long way to visit his Temecula office, but it's worth it. He has done 2 fantastic cataract surgeries and takes care of my old, diabetic, dry eyes that have had alot of treatment for retinopathy, which causes complications. He works hard to stay in touch with my retina specialist so he knows exactly what is going on with my care, just in case there is something he can do for me. He has digital cameras and shows you very detailed pictures of your eyes on a computer screen, and he explains in detail what is going on and what is the best treatment for you, and why. Due to my circumstance immediately recognized there is serious concern ran appropriate tests and of course requested necessary scans but in my scenario PPO plan rejects his request thinking service is unnecessary even though there are red flags due to my overall good health and age etc. Long story short end up having to go thru ER where they order scans and identify a mass pushing up against my ocular nerve - sixth nerve palsy in the cavernous sinus - all the while in line with what Dr. Smith was concerned of and suspected.He takes the time to explain - his little drawings help too and combined genuine interest in his patients assures me if I need to go back I'm in good hands.Current Status:Due to sensitive area and high risk of biopsy we are assuming it's benign for now and I'm trying to determine whether micro doses of radiation or proton therapy (also mentioned by Dr. Smith) may be a good fit for treatment. Dr. Smith is very, very good. Not only is he a great surgeon, but he has terrific bedside manner. He takes the time, lots of time if necessary, to explain the problems you have and the procedures to correct them. I have had the privilege to know, now, three great eye surgeons in my life; he is one of them. Dr. Smith is fantastic. I won't ever go anywhere else again. He diagnosed my husband with a rare auto-immune disorder that was presenting as eyeritis after several doctors had missed it, and then when my daughter accidentally poked me in the eye and tore off the bottom half of my cornea he met me at his office 2 hours before they opened, then again over the weekend, and all the while making sure i had his cel phone number in-case i had any problems or questions. I arrived at 10:30 a.m. they had me in for the first part of my checkup within 5 minutes. Dr Smith has everyone doing their job and there was no waste of time doing it. I've been with Dr Smith for years and I've never seen a doctor like him. He is very thorough and pays attention to detail. I would highly recommend him and his crew.
